Greetings Ted and Xanadu supporters,
The ROX Research Initiative is currently finalizing server core operations and public-release code for the "UDK - Universal Database of Knowledge" expected to be fully operational with public release within months.
Though the central control core systems are ready to be deployed, we are currently refining all front-end visualization, human access, and interface options which include anything from HTML output through a 3d operating system, all designed around a massively centralized knowledgebase of all concepts and comprehension.
Your Xanadu project has again come to mind, as we are looking into quick interface options to allow people to begin to feed information into the UDK/ROX systems, we have already built a couple final-model applications and java versions that allow 3d nodal structures to be visualized and interconnected with external applications, and are working on some inlined plugins for netscape/ie to allow direct interrelation between UDK visualization 3space and html page views. The methods, as we all know, are conceptually simple: to highlight or indicate text targets and draw a line to them. As you are well aware, your CosmicBook project is quite similar, though far primitive in capability, but worthily so.
My hope is that we may merge development efforts to both allow your project-specific components to interface to the UDK systems as well as merge the standardized protocols for html tags or other simple fixes in 3rd party protocols to allow combined utilization of all possible options.
There are also already built plugin and modules for most of the primitive concept interrelation database engines, wiki's, etc have all been accomodated. We would like to ensure that all possible current data formats and techniques have been prepared to be completely obsorbed.
Though we currently have systems to interrelate java and binary code on many platforms, I would like to workD with projects that have more primitive systems in order to develop fully functional yet extremely simple interfaces to the knowledge. Your CosmicBook has a solid primitive interface and technique, our UOS software incorporates highly advanced visualization and concept mapping, and although our systems are able to present a primitive and simple front-end interface on the surface, the entire system still is neccessary to operate it.
I would like to see some basic elemental projects created that use a shared library for win32 so that concept interrelation between (writing the document, making a webpage, interlinking the concepts with the UDK) is extremely streamlined. We have already built the demonstration templates for these models.
Your projects have nicely created some simple interfaces. It's time to connect them to the control systems that allow them to workD in their ideal manner.
We know the final goal of all our projects, now the pursuit is the implementation of client-usable interfaces to allow this to happen.
I have built the centralized knowledge system for this purpose, and incorporated global-scale accomodations.
It is intended for all to use, and I would like to encourage interaction from Xanadu and all related parties so that we may optimize any further design elements beyond our already comprehensive model and create some elements to allow the public to begin interfacing to our combined goal.
I shall look forward to your awaited response to email "Wilfred@Cryogen.com" at earliest convenience.
Till soon,
-Wilfred L. Guerin
